Car Insurance in San Antonio

Reader’s Question:

Can I ask for your opinion on my car insurance in San Antonio? I’m planning to get the minimum requirement for car insurance coverage because it would be cheaper. This is a good plan, isn’t it?

San Antonio, TX

Jones, you are driving in one of the largest cities in the U.S. It is the third largest in Texas, I believe, and the eighth in the country. San Antonio has a lot of highways and expressways. It is important to be prepared in the event of a crash or collision. So, to answer your question, the basic coverage is enough; it will after all save you some money on monthly car insurance premiums. However, the experience of many will tell you getting a wider coverage would be much better.

Liability for the damage and injury one causes to another vehicle and its driver is the basic state requirement. In Texas, you basically need $25,000 worth of coverage for bodily injury or death; $50,000 for bodily injury or death for each accident; and $25,000 for property damage. This is referred to the 20/50/25 coverage.

The thing is that in most cases, the actual losses are much bigger. So even though you can save on monthly premium with a basic liability coverage, you end up paying a lot more from your pocket during an accident. Most people have a problem with being caught unprepared, so they choose to up their coverage.

Finally, your basic car insurance in San Antonio won’t cover your own losses – your own injuries and the damage to your property. It would be good to have something broader.
