Is there cheap car insurance in San Antonio?

Jason

San Antonio, TX

There are around 373 businesses that sell or offer car insurance in San Antonio listed on the online directory. So it shouldn’t be too difficult to find cheap car insurance in San Antonio. To have it, however, will depend to a certain extent on you. Companies that offer car insurance in San Antonio will base your rates on your age, gender, the kind of job you have, your credit history, driving record, and the kind of car you own. This is how they figure out how much of safe driver you are.

Rates of car insurance in San Antonio also depend on certain auto-related issues of the area. This is how providers estimate how much claims they expect to be filed against them. Reader’s Question:

Can I ask for your opinion on my car insurance in San Antonio? I’m planning to get the minimum requirement for car insurance coverage because it would be cheaper. This is a good plan, isn’t it?

Jones

San Antonio, TX

Jones, you are driving in one of the largest cities in the U.S. It is the third largest in Texas, I believe, and the eighth in the country. San Antonio has a lot of highways and expressways. It is important to be prepared in the event of a crash or collision. So, to answer your question, the basic coverage is enough; it will after all save you some money on monthly car insurance premiums. However, the experience of many will tell you getting a wider coverage would be much better.

Liability for the damage and injury one causes to another vehicle and its driver is the basic state requirement. In Texas, you basically need $25,000 worth of coverage for bodily injury or death; $50,000 for bodily injury or death for each accident; and $25,000 for property damage. This is referred to the 20/50/25 coverage.

The thing is that in most cases, the actual losses are much bigger. So even though you can save on monthly premium with a basic liability coverage, you end up paying a lot more from your pocket during an accident. Most people have a problem with being caught unprepared, so they choose to up their coverage.

Finally, your basic car insurance in San Antonio won’t cover your own losses – your own injuries and the damage to your property. It would be good to have something broader.

Reader’s Question:

I want to help my brother in Texas get car insurance but he is considered a high-risk driver, how do we go about doing this?

Timothy

Austin, TX

Getting car insurance for high risk drivers is not always easy, in fact some may find it quite of a challenge. Some insurance companies may even refuse coverage to someone who has had an extensively unsatisfactory driving record, or carries a certain level of risk when driving a car that makes them virtually uninsurable. However, there are still ways that you can get car insurance for a high risk driver, here are some tips that can help you and your brother there in Texas:

1.Get a good idea about the kind of driving history your brother has through your state DMV. Make sure that he is cleared of all fines for his penalties.
2.Begin your search by going online. Look for a car insurance company that specializes on high-risk cases. Running a free insurance search check using this website can make it far easier and less time consuming for you to find a suitable insurance provider, compared to talking to agents or brokers.
3.Always compare your options, it’s a good idea to study offers well and not pick whatever policy comes to you first. Even if you are a high-risk driver providers will still rate differently and you should take advantage of that.
4.Take defensive driving lessons which will help you avoid accidents as well as qualify you for additional discounts.
5.You have a choice of driving a less expensive vehicle, or increasing your premiums up a notch, both of which will result into lower premiums.

Reader’s Question:

We bought a car for my daughter in Colorado and we live here in Houston. We are just wondering if we need to get insurance in both location.

Bill

Houston TX

The answer is No. It is actually not possible to get car insurance in both states. Normally, you will have to get insurance for the vehicle where it is registered. Generally, the garaged location and where it is is driven should be the state where you should get car insurance for it. If the vehicle is registered in your daughter’s name she may be able to insure it in her home state. It may be difficult to get insurance for the car if it is registered in one state and will be driven and garaged in another state.

Your daughter may also try getting her own car insurance on the vehicle although she does not have insurable interest in the automobile. She may have a difficult time finding an car insurance company that will insure the vehicle if it is not registered under her name. But there are some insurance carriers that allow this.

Reader’s Question:

How can I get free car insurance quote for my mom who is already a senior citizen? I hope I can get a low-cost policy for her so that she could better enjoy her retirement here in Texas.

Leila

Austin, TX

Leila, you should not worry much about your mom’s car insurance policy even with the financial setbacks that our country is experiencing right now. And furthermore, getting her free car insurance quote is the last thing that you should be worrying about because you can easily get it when you get in touch with car insurance companies there in Texas or when you go online to visit their Web sites.

On the matter of a low-cost policy, you should not put your attention too much on the price. I know that your budget might be tight, but car insurance which is cheap on the onset may not be able to fully protect your mother the way she should be. The cheap policies usually have only the most basic of coverage.

What you should do is avail of a car insurance policy with a reasonable price and enough coverage, and then try to lower its amount by asking for discounts. That should not be too hard because senior citizens are entitled to as much as 10% discount. This is because they belong to that side of the spectrum of people viewed by car insurance companies as less likely to make claims frequently. So, you should definitely take advantage of this discount.
